Bukansan Hike (Flashback to winter) South Korea
Seven Sisters and their Teacher is an amazing time lapse of South Korea taken in the Daejeon mountains. Much like the mountains of northern Seoul (Bukansan), the tranquil scenes of nature, temple and streams come together in autumn and explode with adventure in winter (recommended for visiting Bukansan, and that information follows). Enjoy your adventures in Korea.
Moxxor rep. Luke Goddard (company information) invited me on a great hiking location in northern Seoul, Mount Bukansan will not disappoint any travelers that wish to get some fresh air and outdoor activity in winter. They sell rubber-strapped steel crampons (5,000 won a pair) for walking on snow and ice -recommended for this mid-winter adventure. It's nice because those cramp-ons are all you need to climb safely, as you'll see in the video, I'm only wearing running shoes with the cramp-ons. The area is fresh and the scenery will enable a full eye-view of surrounding mountains and the winter is the preferred season, as it is clearer than summer months. If you come to Korea, make sure you try this!
Directions from Seoul: take the orange subway line northwest (Anguk Station...or others on Orange line 3) and take off at Gupabal station. From there, just take a bus with other local hikers and you'll get dropped off at the base of the mountains. From here you can hike to several peaks and there are several descents are optional, some end up on the northcentral area of Seoul at Miasamgeori Station, light blue line 4. Wondering what you are up to this weekend? I am hoping to get a fairly long ride in. Was going to ride from Cheonan to Mokpo, but i'll now be in Mokpo the following weekend so would like to go somewhere different.
Let me know if you'd be for going on a ride on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. Just one day or more :) It'd be great to ride with someone - still finding it a challenge to meet people to ride with.
Am hoping to get out of Seoul to see somewhere new.

Ah, a great challenge it is connecting with riders in Korea (no small task at all, luck in past few rides!! ^_^). Let's ride...hmmm. My wife and family are over in Ansan, I'm in Gangneung, Gangwon-do at the moment, I will drive up to gather them (newborn came three weeks ago, Sierra...photos are in my sets Family Expedition -Mark I). Are you based in Cheonan now -or Seoul? I have ridden Ansan-Suwon-Pyeongtaek, Cheonan (day 1), Cheonan to Boryeong (Daecheon Beach) Day 2, Daecheon Beach to Gunsan/Byeongsanbando National Park Day 3. That's the closet to Mokpo -to date.
Your plans/ideas/routes -welcome. Invite others, I will notify my co-teacher and student that's picked on riding, great times (invite your friends, let's ride together)...
My recent ride ideas: Gangneung to Ganseong (closest town to DMZ) and back to Gangneung in a day? That's about 200km. It would be epic to do this for the first time with you. If too much, we could explore the backcountry and still visit Sokcho and return to Gangneung.
